Waynestock 2017!

We’re honored to play Waynestock again this year!

Show info from Waynestock:

Who wants an early Christmas present? Yeah? Well here you go: Announcing Waynestock VII, taking place Feb. 3 and 4 at Relix Variety Theatre, 1208 N. Central St. in the “Happy Holler” neighborhood!

The Reader’s Digest version: Waynestock began as a celebration of life for Andrew “Drew” Bledsoe, the son of local music writer extraordinaire Wayne Bledsoe, who died suddenly in 2010. Wayne’s friends, many of them local musicians, wanted to offer comfort the only way they knew how: By playing.

It was amazing. It was life-affirming. It was magic, so much so that we did it again the following year for the family of the late Phil Pollard … and the year after that … and so on, until Waynestock became a festival that raised funds for worthy causes (including the Community School of the Arts, the E.M. Jellinek Center, WUTK The Rock and the Knoxville Girls Rock Camp) in addition to being a hell of a good time.

This year’s beneficiary is the iconic Old City venue known as The Pilot Light, which this year obtained 501(c)(3) status and now operates as a non-profit. It’s a beloved local institution, a bastion of culture and music you won’t find anywhere else and fits perfectly with the Waynestock aesthetic. According to Pilot Light Executive Director Jason Boardman, “We are so thankful to be chosen as this year’s beneficiary. The interior fixtures, seating and lights, made largely by volunteer help, are now 12-15 years old and need some help. We plan to use the money raised to replace and repair things that have always had to wait due to more pressing priorities. These are features that will make it a more comfortable environment to see a show.”

Speaking of shows, here’s who you’ll see gracing the Waynestock stage this year!

8 p.m.: John Myers Band

SATURDAY, FEB. 4

As always, admission is only $5 per night. And as always, there will be a raffle going on with plenty of sweet prizes. And as always, you’ll come away with new friends, new favorite bands and a renewed appreciation for just how spectacular this local scene is.

Mark your calendars and plan on being there. We can’t wait to see you and celebrate once again.

And Josh Smith

Singer-Songwriter, Josh Smith, began playing his songs with his band, Handsome and the Humbles in early 2014, creating a sound that has been described as "Garage Americana." His songs, which are inspired by the people he's met and stories he's heard while growing up in East Tennessee, aim to introduce elements of Appalachian/southern culture that may cause the listener to think, "There's more to those people than I thought." Both his band's debut EP, Hallelujah, Alright, and first full-length album, Have Mercy have been well-received by East Tennessee audiences and critics alike–affording him the opportunity to play shows as close to home as the Bristol Rhythm and Roots Reunion and as far away as Rockwood Music Hall in New York, NY. With increasing critical acclaim and shows booked all over the Southeast, Josh Smith and his band Handsome and the Humbles have become a group to watch.

Maryville, TN... East Tennessee will soon have a new acoustic concert series, courtesy of the Royal Oaks Event Center, 4411 Legends Way, Maryville Tennessee. Plans have been unveiled to launch a series of special intimate performances featuring established recording artists of both local and national renown. The monthly series will kick off in late August and continue on an ongoing basis.

“It’s been my dream to present live music in this wonderful community ever since my wife Alisa and I arrived here just over a year ago,” series organizer Lee Zimmerman commented. “The Royal Oaks Event Center at Royal Oaks provides a spectacular setting for doing just that and I think it’s safe to say that it will offer an amazing ambiance like no other. After working with so many fantastic artists over the years as a writer and reviewer for various national musical publications, I’m delighted to be able to share their talents firsthand with the community and music lovers throughout the area. Everyone is invited to share in the celebration, Royal Oaks residents and the entire East Tennessee community as well.

The Royal Oaks Event Center offers spectacular views, an upscale environment and an intimate pub-like setting where food and alcoholic beverages will be available for purchase. Audiences will be especially pleased with the opportunity for interaction between artists and audiences through exclusive tailor made performances that will be unlike any others.
